The Steamship Authority is the largest ferry service to the Islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket from Cape Cod.  Martha's Vineyard ferries depart from Woods Hole and Nantucket ferries depart from Hyannis.  Our seasonal high-speed ferry, the M/V Iyanough, provides dock-to-dock travel from Hyannis to Nantucket in just one hour.

 

The Steamship Authority currently operates ten vessels (including a high-speed passenger-only ferry) carrying passengers, automobiles, and freight trucks.

 

The Able Seaman shall perform all the duties under the direction of duly authorized superiors, including but not limited to the following:

*  Direct vehicles in a safe manner in the loading and unloading process.

*  Handle lines and cables in the docking and undocking process.

*  Steer vessel under direction of Pilot and Master.

*  Splice lines and cables, as required.

*  Stand lookout as required by Captain and Pilot.

*  Perform other duties as assigned.

 

The Steamship Authority wage is competitive among employers in the industry.

*  The starting wage for an Able Seaman is $31.82.

*  You can become permanent after 150 days of working.

*  Company paid uniforms.

*  Weekly pay schedule.

*  Teamsters Union Local No. 59 health insurance provided by Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

 

Requirements:

*  Must possess a valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with a minimum Able Seaman Rating.

*  Must possess a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

 Supplemental Information

The Steamship Authority requires employees to obtain and maintain full COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment.
