The Steamship Authority is the largest ferry service to the Islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket from Cape Cod.  Martha's Vineyard ferries depart from Woods Hole and Nantucket ferries depart from Hyannis.  Our seasonal high-speed ferry, the M/V Iyanough, provides dock-to-dock travel from Hyannis to Nantucket in just one hour.

 

The Steamship Authority currently operates ten vessels (including a high-speed passenger-only ferry) carrying passengers, automobiles, and freight trucks.

 

The Oiler shall perform all the duties under the direction of duly authorized superiors, including but not limited to the following:

*  Keep all floor plates and handrails around machinery free from oil.

*  Stand their watch and keep temperature records, as required.

*  Start up and stops all pumps and machinery, as required.

*  Take on all oil and water, connect and disconnect shore power and sewage vacuum system hose, under supervision.

*  Attend all pumps and machinery, as required.

*  Grease the steering gear, as required.

*  Perform all other duties as duly assigned.

 

The Steamship Authority wage is competitive among employers in the industry.

*  The starting wage for an Oiler is $32.51.

*  You can become permanent after 150 days of working.

*  Company paid uniforms.

*  Weekly pay schedule.

*  Teamsters Union Local No. 59 health insurance provided by Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

 

Requirements:

*  Must possess a valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with a minimum Oiler rating.

*  Must possess a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
